25 Shades Toward Disappearance, 2025
25 paintings each is 21.0 x 29.7 cm
Acrylic and watercolor on paper, framed in wood and non-reflective glass
This is a study that seeks to examine and work with the pigment Dictatorship Blue, which I developed in 2023. The study focuses on light exposure and investigates how time and light affect the pigment, including how these factors can accelerate its dissolution or fading.
The work uses the material transformation of the pigment as an analytical framework for understanding the fragility of documents. In particular, it addresses precarious documents that sustain and regulate the lives of refugees. Although such documents are often perceived as stable and authoritative, they are in practice fragile, temporary, and prone to disappearance over time. Through the pigment’s gradual fading, the study makes visible how these documents lack permanence and how their power and function can erode, weaken, and ultimately vanish.
