Upcoming Project: Foreign Object (2026)

This new watercolor series continues my use of the black prism as a recurring formal structure. Across the works, the prism appears within Nordic spring sunsets as a non-integrated geometric form, opaque, immovable, and materially distinct from its surroundings. It does not respond to the landscape. It occupies space on its own terms.

The series draws on Homi K. Bhabha’s concept of incommensurability, in which cultural difference cannot be reduced, absorbed, or rendered coherent within dominant aesthetic frameworks. The black prism functions as an incommensurate presence. It does not resolve into symbol or narrative, nor does it conform to the spatial or chromatic logic of its environment.

Rather than illustrating identity or emotion, the series materializes foreignness as a visual and spatial condition. The black prism does not refer; it acts. Its presence recalibrates the image without integrating into it.

The full series will be exhibited in 2026 as a solo exhibition at Gallery CU@uddenberg in Göteborg.
