Alqumit Alhamad is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is informed by lived experiences of war, displacement, and queerness. Active since 2011, Alhamad's practice spans over a decade of continuous work, including early exhibitions in Syria and an evolving international presence across Europe, the United States, and Asia. He works across sculpture, drawing, painting, textile, illustration, performance, and installation, combining artistic research, archival materials, traditional crafts, and sensory elements such as scent, sound, and tactility.

His approach critically engages systems of control and questions how histories are preserved, embodied, and transmitted. The process is grounded in long-term research and collaborations, with a focus on memory as a contested and evolving site. Rather than aiming for resolution, the work embraces fragmentation, contradiction, and constant reinvention.

Alhamad earned an MFA in Fine Arts from Valand Art Academy (2024), a diploma in Visual Communication from Östra Grevie Folkhögskola (2022), a degree in Design and Architecture from Tishreen University, and a BFA in Graphic Design and Animation from the Aleppo University of Fine and Applied Arts (2014).

In 2025, Alhamad was named a Young Artist by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and awarded the Vera and Göran Agnekils Prize, one of the Academy’s most notable recognitions for emerging artists. Founded in 1735, the Royal Academy is among Sweden’s most influential cultural institutions. That same year, his project War Trauma won Ung Svensk Form 2025 (Young Swedish Design), the country’s leading platform for artists and designers, accompanied by a national touring exhibition. He also received the Postnord postal stamp Sketch Assignment at ArkDes, Sweden’s national centre for architecture and design.

Previous awards include the Al-Basel Scholarship from Aleppo University and a one-year working grant from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee (Konstnärsnämnden). He has also been nominated for the Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf's Young Leader Scholarship and the Bror Hjorth Award for Young Illustrators in Uppsala.

Alhamad’s work has been exhibited at several prestigious institutions, including the British Museum (2019, UK), SOAS University of London (2019, UK), and Liljevalchs Konsthall (2024, 2025, Sweden). Other exhibitions include Berlin Central Station (2017, Germany), SEAS Brighton Gallery (2021, UK), Blå Stället Konsthall (2022, Sweden), Steneby Konsthall (2023, Sweden), Gallery Detriti – GIBCA Extended (2023, Sweden), Not Quite Konsthall (2024, Sweden), OnBoards Biennale (2025, BE), Dunkers kulturhus (2025, Sweden), Gallery Platform (2025, Finland), and the Museum für Fotokopie (2025, Germany), among others.
